Lavender in the Texas Hill Country

WHERE ARE WE?  Our lavender farm is at 852 Flat Creek Rd. From Johnson City, go west on 290 one mile, left on Flat Creek Rd (CR204) ..3/4 mile on the right.  Johnson City is less than an hour from Austin or San Antonio and less than 30 minutes from  Fredericksburg or Marble Falls.

WHO ARE WE?  We relocated to the Hill Country in 2005 from Houston determined to 'simplify our lives'.  What a difference!  Lavender planting was one of the first agenda items for Chelita - a hobby that got out of control.  For Tex, it was a shiny new John Deere tractor, goats and llamas (as gifts to Chelita!). "Dr. TEX Doolittle" continues to expand his animal kingdom -- recently adding four ducks as neighbors to his  guinea fowls! These days, our trips to Houston are fewer and we have slowed down to the country life, working fourteen hours a day now, rather than the ten we worked in Houston.  The Meadows at Flat Creek - the lavender farm, the animals, the garden, the cultivated acres, the organic weeds, our home and now the barn are all works in progress, but we wouldn't trade our muddy boots and tired bones for the corporate suits we left behind!  Who would have known so many projects could be in process and unfinished at any one time?

 July-2008

The Meadows at Flat Creek is open when we have blooms and by appointment.  For group tours, please call ahead.  For weddings, we find angustifolia to be the best choice.  Fresh in May- June  and Sept-Oct.  Still beautiful when dried.

Chelita is also willing to provide lavender talks to community  groups as time permits.

Mark your calendar for the 2009 Texas Hill Country Country Lavender Festival - October 3... followed by the 10th annual Wild Game Dinner.

In the 2009 season,  Chelita has resumed creating "Born in the Hill Country" Little People.

Tex' latest endeavor is building a 32X64 foot barn.  As this progresses, we will post pictures (no, the house is still not finished)
