OCT 3    Texas Hill Country Lavender Festival

OCT 3 2009 - MARK YOUR CALENDAR! 
 2nd Annual Texas Hill Country Lavender Festival - first Saturday in October - followed by the 10th Annual Wild Game Dinner, benefiting Blanco County Youth.
** Six area farms will be on Tour along 290W from Fredericksburg to Johnson City.   Check out the Johnson City Chamber website for individual farm events and map.  www.JohnsonCityTexasChamber.com
Highlights at our lavender farm - 
Back by popular demand:  Award-winning Austin Singer/Songwriter George Ensle will perform from 1-4.  www.georgeensle.com Bring your chair and just enjoy the afternoon.  George will have CD's for sale; a perfect holiday gift for a misplaced Texan yearning for home. 
Our final 2009 lavender is in bloom.  Come early for best u-pick and photo opportunities.  Blanco County Master Gardeners will be available throughout the day to answer your horticultural questions. 
Ranger and Blanca have been joined by Magnolia, the newest of our llama family. We'll have some llama treats on hand should you want to talk with the llamas (you might get a llama hum for your efforts). 
We will be offering lavender-themed tasties and non-alcoholic beverages for sale.  Lavender beer samples will be available on a first come basis.  Feel free to stop at one of our many Hill Country wineries to bring your own beverage if you plan to spend some time with us. 

10am - Butterfly workshop   Dan  Holland  Dan will take you on a pictorial journey from cocoon to flight using some of his brilliant photography to map the way. If our pet butterflies cooperate, you will be in for a special butterfly identification treat.

11am Birds of the Texas Hill Country - Andy Lee  Another outstanding photographer.  Andy has a passion for birds.  Have you ever wondered, "what is making that beautiful sound?"  Andy will teach you how to identify birds, alert you to what in-season birds to look for, and provide some tweet tips on attracting birds. 

12pm Rainwater Harvesting - Blanco County Master Gardeners Pat Owens and Peggy WelchThere is more than one way to harvest that water!  Everyone needs this session.  Conservationists, gardeners and critter lovers will learn how to construct a barrel for collecting rainwater, receive tips on where to place it and determine how to use it for garden or wildlife. Cost and material information will be provided.  Pat and Peggy will be available the remainder of the day for additional rainwater harvesting questions. 

2pm Lavender workshop - Chelita Riley   If you have to pick only one or two types of lavender, what would they be?  This session will have tips for the garden lavender grower. If you want to learn how to plant a lavender field, you'll have to stay after class. 

 Throughout the Day

Glass Blowing - A Lost Art:  Charlotte Holden from Houston, TX will hold demonstrations on glass blowing techniques.  She will also have some of her creations available for sale. 

Jewelery Making - Just in Time for Christmas:  Angie & Friends from Houston, Tx, will conduct workshops in jewelry making.  Packages will be available for you to make your own or make it easy on yourself -- buy one of their creations, already made.

 

While you are in Johnson City, be sure to visit our wonderful merchants.  On Oct 3, one of the best architectural antique store in these parts, Pieces of the Past, will be stocked with new items from the 2009 Round Top Antique show and will offer 20% off most itemsMainstreet Boutique, that little shop you always wanted to find, carrying casual clothing that you just want to live in and regret you didn't buy more of , will discount new fall arrivals by 10%  and  sales merchandise by 70%.  Mainstreet also carries our lavender body products throughout the year.

10am - Gates Open

YES, WE WILL HAVE PLANTS - Fall is the best time to plant lavender or most other perennials. We will have lavender plants and some of our favorite herbs and natives for sale.  In addition to our farm products, artisans will be offering items for sale along with additional lavender farms who will be offering their own lavender specialties. 

Food and Beverage will be available for purchase, but feel free to stop by one of our local Hill Country Wineries and bring your own beverage!
